Through one-on-one and small group classes, your middle school student will begin to thrive as a writer and a reader. If you have heard the refrain, "What does any of this have to do with my life?" you've come to the right place. As your child's tutor, I will design an educational plan with your child in mind connecting our lessons to authentic experiences.
Mastering English Language Arts is more than just passing exams or writing a polished essay. It’s about understanding how reading, writing, grammar, and communication skills work together to help students succeed not just in school, but in life. Many students feel disconnected from ELA, unsure how it applies to their future, while parents worry their teens aren’t reaching their full potential.
Without the right guidance, students can lose confidence, disengage, and fall behind in crucial skills like critical reading, effective writing, and understanding complex texts. Standard methods of teaching—relying on worksheets or isolated drills—fail to show students how these skills fit together. This can leave them feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and unprepared for what’s next in their academic journey.
With years of experience teaching middle and high school students, I offer a holistic approach to English Language Arts that makes learning relevant and empowering. Through personalized lessons, real-world connections, and an emphasis on student choice, I help your teen build confidence in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Together, we focus on the process, not just the product, ensuring your teen not only improves in ELA but also develops the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
I believe every student learns best when they have a voice in their education. By incorporating student choice and focusing on their individual strengths, I create lessons that engage and empower your teen, allowing them to take ownership of their learning and build confidence in their ELA skills.
I connect ELA skills to real-life experiences, whether through analyzing current events, exploring career-related texts, or discussing topics relevant to social media and their future. This makes learning meaningful and shows your teen how English Language Arts is essential for success in school and beyond.
I focus on the entire process of learning—reading, writing, critical thinking, and reflection—rather than just aiming for a polished product or a higher grade. This helps your teen develop lifelong skills that will benefit them not only in school, but in any path they choose in life.
Having a teacher that was understanding like you was so important in shaping me to realize who I am. You had me read a book about a gay kid in school figuring out who he was and finding his place and at that point in my life I’d never related to anything like that before. That became my favorite book and over the years I’ve bought multiple copies of it and given it to people just like me who needed a little help in figuring out who they could be.
Mrs. Gonzales was my ESL and ELA teacher. She taught me the proper way to use the English language by many different skills such as speaking, reading and writing. She motivated me to become a fluent English speaker by many fun activities. She also gave me the confidence to always speak up no matter how shy I was and to always use any opportunity to practice. Thanks to her my world has opened up to so many opportunities and I am able to travel the world with confidence.
Anna likes you sooooooo much. I was listening to you when you were communicating with Anna. Both Anna and I learned from you. I shall help Anna learn something about syllables. After class, Anna played the joke ‘knock knock’. How interesting! It’s regretful that we cannot book priority successfully. When you are free, you can talk with Anna again. Have a good day with your granddaughters. All the best!
